Tony has been modelling railways since he was given a Hornby Dublo 3 rail trainset back in the 1950s. With the introduction of Horby Dublo's two rail system, the 3 rail set was exchanged for a new passenger set (Green R1 and two suburban coaches, along with another R1 - in black livery this time). An interest in narrow gauge railways came about when GEM introduced their 5.5mm whitemetal kits (some of which he still has). The introduction of 009 and the appearance of Eggerbahn, cause a change of direction and HO9 (HOe) modelling commenced. He joined the 009 Society a long time ago with the membership number of 52.
In the 1970s, his interests drifted towards the full size and he became publicity officer of the Welsh Highland Railway (1964) Ltd and also became involved with the Glyn Valley Tramway Society. When Steven Poole produce their "Sir Theodore' kit, two were purchased (and, yes he still owns both, one still untouched!) and modelling in 7mm narrow gauge (0n16.5) commenced. A scale he models in to this day.
In the 1980/90s he started writing for Practical Model Railways and edited Model Railway Collecting, building many narrow gauge review models from 009 to 16mm.
He joined Dapol Model Railways, just after their acquistion of G&R Wrenn and was involved with the move and subsequent setting up of Model Railway World at Lower Dee Mill in Llangollen. One of his ex-exhibition 009 layouts and an N gauge layout were featured in the exhibition.
Recently he has had an obsession with narrow gauge trams, miniature railways and canals and he is often busy in his workshop working on 'undisclosed' projects which sometimes involve all of them!
