009/HOe TRAMS NARROW GAUGE TRAMS Building 009/HOe trams There are quite a few HO plastic tram bodies available suitable for conversion to 009/HO9. These have now been added to by the importation of Czech static models, which are around HO scale. I have been converting plastic tram bodies for quite a few years now, in fact, the first one I converted was from 00 to 009 and was a single deck K's tram kit mounted on an Atlas Bo-Bo chassis. It had a delightful wobble as it made its way along my 20 foot long Minera Tramway 009 exhibition layout. I digress! I've usually used Bachmann, Wiking and Lifelike HO scale trams and sometimes cut-down 00 scale plastic tram bodies, which have been modified, to fit an N gauge chassis. My method of construction is to remove the interior and construct a box of plasticard to house the chassis (with ventilation holes), then mount it to the tram body. Sometimes it is possible to cut a hole in the interior and fit the chassis into it, utilising as much as the seating as possible, which can then be populated with whitemetal seated figures to add a bit of weight. |
