McHale's Metals - Gn15

Underground ernie.jpg

I'm starting on a Gn15 layout - this is around G scale (1/24th in my case), running on 16.5mm (00) gauge track (On30 Peco, actually).

Currently, I've had a re-think and I'm building the layout on two five foot by two foot boards to give an overall layout of ten foot by two. It's quite suprising how big 1/24th scale cars are!

The theme will be a car scrapyard, along with metal reclaimation.

I've got two 'Underground Ernie' Inspection cars, which are due to be 'modified' shortly, along with two Bachmann GE44 HO diesel shunters, which will shortly be giving up their mechanisms (two power bogies in each!) and mating with something from Pepper 7 or a scratchbuilt attempt.

Also purchased are four 'Underground Ernie' trains, which are suitable for powering Gn15 railcars, etc.

Added to this is a 1/25th Ford Model T delivery van kit, which will soon become a railcar, powered by a modified Dapol Class 150 chassis.

Along with these are some Bachmann 0n30 tram chassis, Porter locos and two gas mechanical shunters, which I already have the Pepper 7 conversion parts.

Watch this space, as they say!

I've also been acquiring various 1/24th and 1/25th model car kits with a view to using them complete or as parts being transported around the 'site' - Above is a Revell 1948 (same age as me!) Ford Woody which will probably be constructed in 'unmodified' form...

Latest addition for McHale's - a Chevy pick up truck - won on Ebay...
